AAHEAD the November 16, 2013 gubernatorial election in Anambra, the Truth and Reconciliation Group of the state Peoples Democratic Party has picked Comrade Tony Nwoye as candidate.
The party urged Anambra people to jettison rumours that a Federal High court in Port Harcourt declared Senator Andy Uba as candidate for the party, saying Uba remains suspended.
In a statement signed by Ikeagwuonwu Chinedu Klinsmann, the party said that Uba was suspended by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, and a High court in Abuja also upheld his suspension alongside Chris Uba, Ejike Oguebego and three others, on the ground that they defrauded the party by printing fake delegate cards used to organise an illegal congress in Anambra on August 24, 2013.
The statement reads in part: “The leadership of the party affirmed that the purported congress, which they claimed to have organised remains illegal, null and void. Therefore, it will be unfortunate for Andy Uba, who is, and remains suspended from PDP, to champion media sympathy, as he is prone over these years to garner artificial support on the pages of newspapers and the online media with an intention of misinforming the good people of Anambra State.
“Let us get the facts right again. Last month, Senator Andy Uba approached a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, praying the court to declare him the PDP candidate of Anambra State and days ago, the same court vacated its order, which it had earlier given, compelling INEC and the PDP to recognise Uba as the candidate of the party in Anambra State. The court threw Uba’s plea to the gutters and asked him to go and work with Comrade Tony Nwoye, who was the authentic candidate that emerged at the congress organised by the NWC of the PDP.
